A lot of scrap: Zen and the art of scrapbooking.

Keywords: memories, photographs, scrapbooks

Wow! What a vacation! You had a great time and you brought back tons of pictures to capture the special moments. You’ve looked at them and shared them during your first weeks back. Now, where do they end up? If you’re like most people, your family’s photos and memorabilia find a place of honor… in shoe boxes, somewhere in a closet or attic. Making matters worse, now that they’re stored there, you can barely remember the people, places or events in the photos. Not to sound like your mother or anything but, is this any way to treat your some of your most priceless possessions?

Why not make a scrapbook with the photos and souvenirs, instead? Scrapbooking can be a great way for your photos to chronicle your family’s important— and everyday— events. What exactly is scrapbooking? Scrapbooking is all about getting those precious photos out of shoe boxes and into albums where they can be seen, shared, and preserved for future generations to enjoy. A popular hobby once again, scrapbooking requires no experience or expertise. In fact, it’s as simple as coming up with a topic or theme you want to feature in your album, picking out photos, adding a some interesting commentary or recollection (by you or those who were there), then cutting and gluing.

There are few rules when it comes to scrapbooking and plenty of room for your own (or other family members’) creativity to flow. So go on, get those photos out of the closet and start creating the annals of your family history. We don’t know your mum, but we’re almost sure it would make her quite proud.

  • I'm not the scrapbooking type but I am a tech nerd! Instead I bought a digital picture frame to highlight all of the family vacation. In about 15 minutes I had all of the vacation pics ready to go for display. It's a great way to remind us of the happy memories we all shared together. It also draws allot of attention and comments when we have family and friends over!
