Having fun apart: Yeah, the kids are alright!
Keywords: activities, family, kids
One of the best parts of vacationing with the whole family is the chance to share time with one another while being part of a larger group. This is a great opportunity for you, as parent, to spend one-on-one quality time with one of your kids (or kids). And really, what kid doesn’t love to have their parent’s undivided attention?
Make it a point to be creative in organizing activities where not every single member of the family is involved and you can create experiences that are truly memorable and fulfilling.
On the other side of the coin, be mindful that while you’re channeling your inner child and wanting to be “one of the kids” with your kids, they may really want some time apart from you (especially as they get older) to be with other kids (don’t take it personally). Bringing along one of their friends, choosing to stay at a family-friendly resort where they’ll find other kids to play with, or finding out about local activities where your kids can hang out with their age group will help your little campers stay happy and feel connected, rather than kidnapped by their parents.
A lot of family-friendly resorts offer separate, supervised, kids-only activities, programs and amenities such as pools and videogame arcades. These facilities are usually staffed by qualified, trained and certified nannies and responsible activity leaders who are wholeheartedly dedicated to your kids having fun and staying safe.
Before you start shaking your head “no” and having separation anxiety, think about this (be honest): how much might you enjoy relaxing and indulging yourself a bit while your kids are being well taken care of and having the time of their lives? Yup, that’s what we thought.
